When peak summer heat arrives, outdoor distance running typically takes a necessary hiatus. But in true Dubai fashion, a limitation has once again been re-engineered into a world-first lifestyle movement.
The highly anticipated second edition of the Dubai Mallathon has officially launched, transforming six of the emirate's most iconic retail complexes into free, climate-controlled morning running and fitness sanctuaries. Under the direct patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, the massive community health drive has expanded from its initial month-long trial into an ambitious, three-month annual calendar event running from June 15 to September 15, 2026.
The daily initiative, which welcomes thousands of residents and visitors every morning between 6am - 10am, before the stores even open. Much more than a temporary escape from the 40°C+ summer heat, this initiative represents a fundamental shifting of the urban landscape, aligning directly with the goals of the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and the UAE's Year of the Family 2026.
Where is the Dubai Mallathon taking place?
Following a spectacular debut season in the summer of 2025, the indoor running event it back. The first edition of the Dubai Mallathon drew over 40,000 participants, logged 120 million steps, and culminated in a Guinness World Record at Dubai Hills Mall for the most runners in a mall-run event, the 2026 edition has streamlined and elevated its footprint.
Before the storefront shutters lift and the daily hum of retail begins, these grand atrium spaces are completely handed over to runners, joggers, and power walkers. The courses feature custom-marked indoor tracks offering 2.5km, 5km, and 10km distances, letting fitness enthusiasts smash personal bests on pristine marble walkways under soaring glass ceilings, or offering others the opportunity to escape the blazing sun, and keep up their fitness routine.
Six of Dubai's top retail destinations are participating, and providing daily circuits for fitness lovers:
- Dubai Mall
- Mall of the Emirates
- Dubai Hills Mall
- City Centre Deira
- City Centre Mirdif
- Dubai Festival City Mall
Dubai Mall and City Centre Mirdif have also introduced dedicated women-only hours and routes, alongside specialised community initiatives tailored specifically for senior citizens and People of Determination.
