Saudi Research and Media Group (SRMG) has been appointed to manage and operate Al Thaqafeya, signalling a new chapter for the Ministry of Culture’s dedicated television channel. Al Thaqafeya remains the definitive platform for the Kingdom’s cultural narrative, bridging heritage and contemporary creativity through its specialised programming.
This appointment leverages SRMG’s extensive editorial and operational expertise to build upon the channel’s established foundations. The upcoming phase will focus on advancing the channel’s editorial direction, expanding its content offering to serve a broader range of audience interests, and strengthening its digital presence.
Jomana Alrashid, CEO of Saudi Research and Media Group, said: “We are honoured by the Ministry of Culture’s trust. Being awarded responsibility for a channel as important as Al Thaqafeya is both a privilege and a responsibility to continue the significant work led by the Ministry since the channel’s launch. It also reflects SRMG’s ongoing efforts to develop and expand across media platforms, diversify revenue streams, and maintain the trust of our clients and audiences through credible, high-quality content.”
Under the new management, the channel will undergo a sophisticated technological upgrade. The development plan includes the launch of new programs and the adoption of modern storytelling formats supported by advanced technologies and artificial intelligence. By utilizing data analytics, the group aims to better understand audience behaviors while preserving the core cultural identity of the platform.
Alrashid added, “We look forward to developing Al Thaqafeya by introducing innovative content that reflects the ambitions of this next phase. We will bring together SRMG’s media ecosystem, editorial expertise, and technical capabilities to deliver a modern viewing experience, strengthen the channel’s digital presence, and use artificial intelligence tools and data analytics to better understand audiences and develop content, while preserving the channel’s cultural identity. We have full confidence in our colleague Malik Alrouqi, General Manager of Al Thaqafeya, to lead the channel through this next phase.”
As Saudi Arabia’s cultural sector continues its rapid growth, Al Thaqafeya remains dedicated to showcasing the diversity of the landscape — from its rich heritage to its contemporary creative scene. Malik Alrouqi, General Manager of Al Thaqafeya, said: “We are proud to enter this new phase and are committed to delivering renewed cultural content that reflects the ambitions of the moment, meets audience expectations, and strengthens Al Thaqafeya’s presence.”
The transition is set to be a phased rollout, with an enhanced programming grid expected to launch gradually starting in September. Full details of the new content strategy and digital initiatives will be announced at the end of August.
