Waldorf Astoria Heads to Abha with a Hillside Luxury Retreat

While much of Saudi Arabia’s hospitality buzz has centered around Riyadh’s skyline and Neom’s futuristic locations, the Aseer region is quietly carving out its own space on the luxury map. Now, the mountain city of Abha is taking the spotlight with the upcoming arrival of Waldorf Astoria Abha — the brand’s first foray into the region.

Announced by ARDARA, the PIF-backed developer behind some of the Kingdom’s most ambitious lifestyle projects, the hotel will anchor the new AlWadi development, a modern residential and tourism community nestled in the highlands.

A New Chapter for Aseer

AlWadi-Abha-001

Expected to feature 180 keys, Waldorf Astoria Abha will bring its signature blend of timeless elegance and world-class service to one of Saudi Arabia’s most scenic destinations. Think five-star comfort framed by mountain views, cool breezes, and access to natural trails that feel a world away from the Kingdom’s desert cities.

The property is part of a broader vision for AlWadi, a mixed-use development that includes upscale hotels, 82 branded apartments and villas, retail promenades, and generous public spaces. Walking and cycling paths will weave through the project, offering a slow-living contrast to the pace of urban Saudi life.

While other detials are still under wraps, the hotel promises to channel the region’s natural beauty into a wellness-focused, design-forward experience.

Why Abha, Why Now?

Set nearly 2,200 meters above sea level, Abha is known for its mild climate, green hills, and cultural heritage. Long a summer escape for Saudi travelers, the city is now being reimagined as a year-round destination, and the arrival of a global luxury name signals just how serious that transformation is becoming.

With its arrival in Abha, Waldorf Astoria joins a growing list of international brands investing in the region’s hospitality potential, but with a distinctly elevated take on what mountain tourism can look like in the Gulf.
