Sofia thrives on the transformative power of travel, finding joy in new encounters, the cultural immersion, in addition to the sheer thrill of discovery - both in terms of self and place. Where did your passion for travel and discovery come from?
Sofia says, "I always knew I loved traveling because, since I was a child, my parents owned a caravan, and we would always go on family road trips. Then, as I grew older, I became a flight attendant in the Middle East for almost six years. After that, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and embark on a new adventure as a travel content creator."
What recommendations would you have for those interested in visiting Saudi Arabia in 2025?
Living in Saudi Arabia, specifically in Jeddah, has allowed her to explore most of its cities and engage in numerous activities she recommends for 2025. Among her favourite activities are diving in the stunning Red Sea, Jeep racing in the desert followed by camping, and visiting the famous sites around major cities.
Sofia recommends several travel experiences in Saudi Arabia, as the country's hospitality, travel, and tourism sectors have undergone remarkable growth in leisure and recreational activities. She says, "There is so much to discover in this country, from mountains and snow to the desert dunes, where you can find numerous activities, to the Red Sea coastline. Every day, I discover a new destination that transports me to another level. Saudi Arabia is dynamic and vibrant, a place one must visit to truly appreciate its offerings."
She continues, "The tourism features here (in Saudi) varies from adventurous activities like hot air balloon rides in AlUla and horseback riding on the sands of Jeddah, to the culturally immersive like wandering through the alleys and streets of the cities. Everything amazing is here—just think of an activity, and you'll find it easily."
Sofia's exploration of Saudi Arabia will shatter any preconceived notions, even for her, Sofia's travel have revealed a land of surprising diversity in Saudi. From the fragrant rose farms of Taif and the ancient wonders of AlUla, to the vibrant modernity of Riyadh and the floral splendour of Abha in spring, she discovered a kingdom of captivating contrasts. Even the winter snows of Tabuk offered an unexpected and enchanting experience, showcasing a side of Saudi Arabia she never imagined. "Saudi Arabia has places for everyone to explore. Every weekend, we still search for new destinations to visit because the options are endless. I also highly recommend going on a road trip with friends between December and May, the golden tourist season that should be on everyone's travel list for the new year."
Which do you prefer budget travel or luxury trips?
The contrast between budget travel and luxury vacations is a common topic, sometimes even confusing for travellers. However, Sofia believes the key is setting priorities. In her view, "Budget travel is just as enjoyable as luxury trips. The destination itself determines the kind of experience you will have."
Beyond the sights and landscapes, what role does food play in your travels?
Sofia emphasises her love for food and innovative flavours, stating that for her, travel and food go hand in hand, "There is a strong connection between travel and food; they complement each other on trips. Food makes travel more enjoyable and immersive. That’s why I always encourage my followers to try new dishes, even if they seem unusual—it’s an amazing experience in itself."
When asked about her favourite restaurants in Saudi Arabia, she responds: "I have many favourites here. One of them is Yaza by Brioche, which offers a diverse Saudi cuisine. I also love Miyazo and Kuro, as I am a fan of Japan and fusion cuisines like Peruvian. And, of course, Shang Palace in Shangri-La — these are all places I highly recommend to my friends and family visiting Saudi Arabia for the first time."
Destinations That Will Change Your Life
For people seeking to travel more and discover something new in 2025, Sofia recommends focussing on food experiences, unforgettable moments, and relaxation spaces. The traditional rules of travel have become less appealing, and travel now fosters deeper connections—whether with oneself, family, or the places visited—making each journey more inspiring and meaningful.
