At Wimbledon 2024, a new star emerged onto the tennis scene: 13-year-old Haniya Minhas.
Despite what this week's international front pages and sporting updates might say about the men's final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, or the intense women's championship between Barbora Krejcikova and Jasmine Paolini - there were some other players making big moves at this year's tennis competition.
Competing in the Girls' 14 & Under Singles competition, and representing the Kingdom, Minhas displayed impressive skills and determination. Although she didn't reach the finals, her victories in the round robin stage and first round of the consolation playoffs showcased her natural talent, commitment to training and growing potential.
Haniya's participation marked a significant moment for Saudi Arabia, with her becoming the first player from the Kingdom to compete at Wimbledon in the junior categories and the only athlete to represent the nation in this year's Wimbledon competition.
Her journey on the court symbolises the growing interest in tennis within Saudi Arabia, and paves the way for future generations of Saudi Arabian tennis stars.
