In 2024, Saudi Arabia's aviation scene reached new heights with over 128 million passengers zooming through its airports. This wasn't just a tiny uptick—numbers were up by 15% from 2023 and a whopping 25% higher than before the pandemic. Saudi Arabia's serious moves on the global aviation stage are clearly paying off.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) reported that domestic flights carried 59 million people, while international voyages attracted 69 million globetrotters. This ramp-up in travel has linked Saudi Arabia to over 170 destinations worldwide. Major routes like Jeddah to Riyadh and Cairo to Jeddah are bustling, with the former topping charts for adding the most seats globally.
In total, Saudi skies saw 905,000 flights in 2024, with an almost even split between domestic and international. The big players—Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and Madinah—handled 82% of this traffic, proving their worth as the country's aviation strongholds.
Cargo wasn't left behind, either. Air freight volumes skyrocketed by 34%, crossing 1.2 million tonnes. King Khalid International in Riyadh, King Abdulaziz International in Jeddah, and King Fahd International in Dammam were major players, turning Saudi Arabia into a key logistics hub.
All this growth isn’t just by chance. Saudi Arabia is doubling down on expanding airports, striking up airline partnerships, and beefing up aviation infrastructure. It's not just about keeping up; it’s about setting the pace and shaping the future of global air travel from the heart of the Kingdom.
