Emirates is giving passengers in its two lower cabin classes more control over comfort and personal space, with new seat features rolling out across its fleet.
In Economy Class, the airline is introducing its U-Dream headrest, designed to provide greater support for the head and neck during sleep. In Premium Economy, Emirates has now unveiled a new electrically powered seat with a full-height adjustable privacy screen between every seat.
The two developments form part of the airline’s ongoing investment in its cabin experience, with the latest Premium Economy seat debuting on newly delivered Airbus A350 aircraft and the U-Dream headrest being installed across Economy Class seats on selected aircraft.
A new headrest for Economy Class
For Economy passengers, the most significant change is the introduction of the U-Dream headrest.
Emirates unveiled and began the roll out of this comfort feature in July 2026, describing it as the world’s first of its kind in Economy Class. Developed as part of Safran Seats’ Z400 seat, the leather headrest is padded and features flexible side wings that fold inwards to gently support the head and neck. It can also be moved vertically and tilted to accommodate passengers of different heights and body types.
The design is intended to help keep the head supported while sleeping, reducing the tendency for it to fall forwards or sideways. Emirates says the headrest has been independently tested and verified to meet European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) aviation safety standards. Unlike a conventional fixed headrest, the U-Dream can be adjusted in multiple ways, allowing passengers to create a more personalised position for resting during a long-haul flight.
The headrest is already in use on selected Emirates aircraft, with installation under way across the wider fleet. Emirates says all of its A350 aircraft will have the U-Dream headrest installed by the end of 2026, while the feature will also come pre-installed on the 270 Boeing 777X aircraft the airline has ordered. Installation on retrofitted Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft is scheduled to begin from 2027.

For those travelling in the Premium Economy class, just this week, Emirates unveiled what it says is the world’s first electrically powered Premium Economy seat with a full-height adjustable privacy screen between every seat.
The seat itself is electrically powered, allowing passengers to adjust their position using an integrated Passenger Control Unit. Dedicated settings include a lounge mode and meal mode. The new seat and privacy screen features will debut on newly delivered Airbus A350 aircraft, where the Premium Economy cabin is arranged in a 2-3-2 configuration with 28 seats. Each seat is 20 inches wide, with up to 39 inches of pitch, and reclines into a cradle position without intruding into the row behind.
But it is the electric privacy screen is the defining new feature.
Unlike the shorter dividers commonly found in Premium Economy cabins, Emirates’ screen extends to the full height of the seat. Passengers can raise or lower it electronically using the seat controls and lock it into position. The feature has been created and implemented to give passengers greater separation from the person sitting beside them, whether they are working, dining or trying to sleep. It also gives Premium Economy a more private feel without moving into Business Class price bracket.

In addition to Economy class, the new Premium Economy seat will also introduce Emirates’ U-Dream headrest by Safran Seats. The same as in Economy, the leather headrest features adjustable wings that can be positioned to provide personalised support for the head and neck.
Already available for Premium Economy passengers is the manually deployed leather footrest, which has been purposely designed to take advantage of the additional space in the footwell. This feature is intended to increase the comfort of the Premium Economy cabin, but also helps to reduce leg fatigue during the flight.
For passengers travelling with their own devices, wireless charging is being introduced in Premium Economy for the first time. Every seat will also feature USB-C charging, while the tray table includes an integrated phone holder that allows a smartphone to be positioned as a second screen.
These features sit alongside a 13.3-inch 4K HDR touchscreen running Emirates’ ice inflight entertainment system. The A350 will also introduce additional exterior camera views, with left- and right-facing cameras joining the existing forward and downward views.
Emirates’ latest changes reflect two different approaches to improving the lower cabins. In Economy, the focus is on making a long-haul seat more comfortable for sleeping, with the U-Dream headrest providing additional support without requiring passengers to bring a separate neck pillow.
Emirates launched Premium Economy in 2022 and has since expanded the cabin across its fleet. The product is currently available on all markets served by the airline’s A350 aircraft, with Premium Economy also available on selected Airbus A380s and retrofitted Boeing 777s. In Premium Economy, the emphasis is increasingly on personal space as well as comfort. The electrically adjustable seat, full-height privacy screen, footrest, wireless charging and larger entertainment screen create a more differentiated experience between Premium Economy and Economy.
With its latest A350 seat, Emirates is now taking the concept a step further: rather than simply offering more legroom and a wider seat, Premium Economy passengers will be able to create a more private space at the touch of a button. Meanwhile, Economy passengers are getting a smaller but potentially meaningful upgrade, with a headrest designed specifically around the challenge of sleeping upright.
