Jeddah is fast becoming the go-to destination for high-speed, high-octane sports events.
In September it was confirmed that Jeddah would be the new location for the Saudi Arabian leg of the E-Prix international race series, and in the same vein, the Red Sea port city has been the chosen location for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix for the last five years. In addition to these high-speed car events, the city will also host three international sailing championships taking place at the end of November, through to the first week in December for the first time.
And this week it was announced that the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) E1 World Championships will take place along the Jeddah Waterfront, for the second year in a row.
Organised by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Saudi Water Sports and Diving Federation, the two-day high-stakes race will take place on Friday January 25 & Saturday January 26. During the event, nine teams manning the fastest electric-powered boats in the world will take to the waters at the Jeddah Waterfront, racing against each other and reaching speeds of up to 95 kilometres per hour.
Both male and female drivers will take to the waters during the electrifying championships, and according to statement made by the Ministry of Sports, the nine teams are owned and headed by a selection of internationally renowned celebrities including Will Smith, Tom Brady, Rafael Nadal, Didier Drogba and Sergio Perez, to name just a few.
Similar to the E-Prix racing, there are a number of these races take place in different locations around the world each year. This season popular destinations such as Italy's Lake Como and Venice, in addition to Monaco, and Pueto Banus in Spain have all seen a leg of racing take place.
