The Saudi Arabian leg of internationally renowned Formula E racing, also known as the E-Prix, will undergo a significant change for Season 11, namely a brand new circuit and a change of city.
After being held just outside the capital city of Riyadh, in the historic UNESCO World Heritage site of Diriyah for the last six years, the electrifying e-race will now take place on the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, the same circuit used for the Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
Season 11 is set to comprise of 17 races that will take place over nine months in 12 different locations around the world, beginning in Valencia, Spain for pre-season testing this November, and hitting cities such as Sao Paulo in Brazil, Mexico City, Miami and now Jeddah.
For Formula E fans this switch up in locations and racing tracks news has come as somewhat of a surprise, particularly as it was announced in June of this year that the race would remain in Diriyah, but the original track route would be updated to follow a new, more challenging path.
However, perhaps this news is a welcome change, especially as the Jeddah Corniche Circuit is loved by Formula 1 fans for its combination of high-speed straights and tight corners, the circuit is sure to provide plenty of opportunities for overtaking and dramatic racing battles.
The decision to switch the Saudi Arabian Formula E race from Diriyah, to the Jeddah Corniche Circuit was voted by both the FIA World Motor Sport Council and ultimately approved the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Sport.
There should be no panic for Formula E fans who have already booked the time off work, as the dates for the event remain the same. The seventh edition of the fast-paced, electric motor race will take place over two days on February 14 & 15, attendees with undoubtedly be in for a weekend of electrifying racing action.
This shift marks a new chapter for the Formula E series in Saudi Arabia, bringing the electric racing championship to one of the most prestigious and challenging circuits in the world. The Jeddah Corniche Circuit, known for its high-speed straights and tight corners, promises to deliver thrilling races and exciting opportunities for overtaking.
