Spike Lee is a renowned American filmmaker, producer, screenwriter, actor, and author - and will be the Head of the Jury for this year's edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF).
Known for his bold and socially conscious films, Lee has made significant contributions to both American and international cinema, particularly in exploring themes of race, class, and social justice: Lee's films often feature strong, complex characters and provocative storylines set in urban environments.
Some of his most iconic works include "Do the Right Thing," "Malcolm X," "Jungle Fever," and "Inside Man." As a world-renowned director, Lee's distinctive style has been notably characterised by vibrant visuals, dynamic camera work, coupled with a powerful soundtrack. It is this combination and balance of various cinematic elements that has made him one of the most influential filmmakers of his generation.

The RSIFF Jury Panel for 2024
Each year a new jury is announced for the RSIFF, and this year American film-maker and director, Spike Lee will take the helm.
The RSIFF jury is a panel of international judges, and is comprised of renowned film experts, directors and professionals from around the world. With their rich experience and diverse perspectives, they will elevate public taste and foster a deeper appreciation for cinematic artistry.
Last year's panel included Jeddawi writer-director Shahad Ameen, film-making duo Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige, award-winning actress Nelly Karim and Venice Film Festival's 2021 grand-jury prize winner May Abdalla. The 2023 judging panel was lead by legendary director and film documentarian Oliver Stone, known for his iconic screenplay and cinematic adaptations.
Although the full jury panel for this year's fourth edition of the film festival is yet to be announced, it has been confirmed that Spike Lee will be the lead juror on the panel.
Red Sea International Film Festival 2024
The fourth edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival 2024 will place from December 5 to 14. Set to be held in the historic Al Balad district of Jeddah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the film festival aims to celebrate the power of both local and international cinema whilst also fostering a vibrant film community in the region.
This year's edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival will showcase a diverse range of films from around the world, including feature films, short films, documentaries, and arthouse cinema. It also features industry panels, workshops, and networking opportunities for filmmakers, producers, and industry professionals.
