Riyadh’s rapidly expanding metro network has reached a major milestone, welcoming its 100 millionth rider in under nine months since opening in December 2024. The achievement reflects the city’s growing embrace of public transport and signals a shift in how urban mobility is being reimagined across the Kingdom.

The six-line system, managed by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, has seen particularly high usage on the Blue Line, which runs along the Olaya-Batha corridor and accounts for nearly half of total ridership. The Red and Orange Lines have also seen strong numbers, while the remaining three lines continue to build momentum. Since its launch, the Riyadh Metro has seen growing and continuous popularity among locals, residents, and visitors alike, as it offers seamless transport across the city for both professional and recreational journeys, that is often quicker than driving in the capital.

Just two months after the initial routes opened in December 2024, the metro system had already recorded 18 million passenger journeys by February 2025. And by May 2025, over 35 million passengers had used the Riyadh Metro, marking an incredible first quarter in operation. Operational performance has remained exceptional, with a punctuality rate nearing 99.8%, underscoring the network’s reliability. Some of the metro system's key interchange stations, including Qasr Al Hokm, KAFD, STC, and the National Museum, have emerged as central hubs, collectively handling nearly a third of all passenger traffic.

Beyond the rail lines, the metro is part of a broader integrated system that includes on-demand buses and strategically located transport hubs, designed to streamline the journey from doorstep to destination. This multimodal approach not only enhances convenience but also supports Riyadh’s vision of a sustainable, connected urban future.

As the city continues to grow, the Riyadh Metro stands as a symbol of progress, efficient, inclusive, and built for the next generation of commuters.
