Behind the Saudi Arabian Pavilion Design
Designed by the award-winning UK-based Foster + Partners, the Saudi Arabian pavilion has been designed to echo Saudi Arabia's unique cultural identity and traditional mud-brick buildings. While embracing modern design principles, the architects have ensured that the pavilion's design remains deeply rooted in Saudi Arabia's architectural heritage, showcasing the enduring influence of the Kingdom's traditional urban forms.
In line with Expo 2025's focus on sustainability, the Saudi Arabian pavilion at Expo 2025 will showcase a range of green or sustainable building features. It will be constructed with low-carbon materials and utilise energy-efficient lighting, rainwater harvesting, and photovoltaic technologies. The pavilion aims to achieve the highest level in Japan's green building rating system and attain Net Zero Operational Carbon status. Furthermore, the design incorporates WELL design principles to promote the health and well-being of visitors.
Foster + Partners is playing a key role in shaping Saudi Arabia's future with its ambitious architectural projects. The UK firm has been awarded major design contracts across the Kingdom, including large-scale developments like the Red Sea International Airport, the modernisation of Abha Airport, the towering two-kilometre high skyscraper planned for Riyadh as part of the North Pole project, the renovation and relaunch of Al Faisaliah Centre and the incredibly indulgent Six Senses Southern Dunes resort.
What is a World Expo?

When is Expo 2025 taking place? And what is the theme?
Each World Expo event is planned to last for just six months, taking on a new theme to highlight for the duration of the internationally attended showcase. This year's edition is set to take place from April 13 to October 13, and will explore the theme "Designing Future Society for Our Lives." It is hoped that this theme will help businesses, nations and the public to focus on creating a sustainable and interconnected society that promotes human well-being.
It is estimated that Osaka will see more than 28 million visitors to the Expo 2025 site. Here visitors will be able to experience a number of country pavilions, as it is slated that some 150 nations from around the world, in addition to 25 organisations will take part in the Expo 2025 event.
