As we tentatively await the official and public launch of the Kingdom's newest national carrier, Riyadh Air, the airline has started to reveal its line up of exciting destinations.
Riyadh Air's highly anticipated commercial debut is marked by the airline officially announcing today that Cairo is set to be a cornerstone of its initial flight network. Operating daily services from Riyadh, the airline will deploy its flagship Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to service what has become one of the most high-traffic corridors in global aviation.
Although commercial operations are yet to be launched, it was confirmed by the CEO of Dubai Airports, Paul Griffiths, that routes between Riyadh and Dubai, with Riyadh Air will launch in the coming months, “We’re adding more routes to Saudi Arabia.” He further noted that the highly anticipated Riyadh-to-Dubai route is expected to begin “over the next few months.”

The selection of Cairo is a calculated move to capture a market that saw a staggering 2.7 million passengers last year. By tapping into this high-traffic route and increasing demand, Riyadh Air aims to provide a seamless bridge for business travellers, tourists, and pilgrims alike, further solidifying the Kingdom’s role as a primary global gateway in line with Vision 2030.
For CEO Tony Douglas, the inclusion of the Egyptian capital is more than just an operational milestone; it is the beginning of a broader ambition. "The launch of our commercial service to Cairo marks a true beginning of our journey to connect Riyadh to the world, and the world to Riyadh," Douglas stated. "This route has been carefully selected to serve a key market that aligns with our ambition to become a global destination and a significant contributor to Vision 2030."
The announcement follows the airline’s rigorous “Pathway to Perfect” phase, a period dedicated to ensuring operational readiness and a world-class passenger experience. With the first aircraft delivery expected in the coming weeks, the carrier is poised to activate a "golden triangle" of initial destinations: London, Dubai, and Cairo.
Riyadh Air isn't just launching a flight; it’s launching an economic engine. By providing high-frequency, premium service to major hubs, the airline supports Saudi Arabia’s goals for economic diversification and increased tourism. This is only the first chapter of an aggressive expansion strategy, with the airline targeting a network of over 100 destinations by 2030.
