Amid the shifting regional tensions and fluctuations in the local landscape, summer travel still remains an absolute priority for Saudi citizens and residents this year, yet the traditional blueprint for planning has fundamentally shifted.
The Skyscanner data for Saudi Arabia outlines a clear evolution in consumer behaviour, moving decisively away from generic holiday planning toward highly personalised, value-conscious, and experiential itineraries.
Rather than locking in rigid itineraries months in advance, Saudi-based travellers are leaning heavily into flexibility and last minute planning, prioritising under-the-radar experiences, and relying on sophisticated digital tools and AI to help navigate the logistics of travel, itineraries and bookings. Data from Skyscanner (a global travel engine that allows users to research and compare prices for flights, hotels, and car rentals) reveals a growing consumer base that is increasingly strategic, highly adaptive, and willing to rethink conventional route planning to ensure a seamless journey.
The recent report exposes statistics that underscore the region's dynamic approach to summer travel this year. While 42% of Saudi travellers have locked in their summer bookings, nearly the same proportion — 44% — are still actively planning their itineraries. And, just a mere 2% of participants stated that they have no intention of travelling at all this summer.

Overall, its evident that Saudi and regional travellers are making their travel decisions for summer, much closer to their expected departure dates. It is understood that this 'last minute' element has been dictated by a complex balancing act of group preferences, travel corridors reopening, budget alignments, and transit convenience.
According to Skyscanner, "With the cost of living still top of mind, trips in 2026 are being built with purpose – shaped around passions, priorities and a personal sense of ‘worth it’." Beyond logistics, the underlying motivation for travel is evolving away from the curated aesthetics of mainstream digital platforms. An overwhelming 93% of Saudi travellers expressed a desire for destinations that diverge from the standard fare dominating social media feeds. The preference is shifting rapidly toward personalisation and genuine discovery — seeking out hidden enclaves, cultural immersion, and locations that offer a distinct sense of place away from the well-trodden tourist trails.
