About Saudi Founding Day
Inaugurated by Royal Decree by His Highness Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in 2022, Founding Day is the nation's newest public holiday.
Founding Day, celebrated annually on February 22, commemorates the establishment of the first Saudi state in 1727 CE (1139 AH) by Imam Muhammad bin Saud. This significant event marked the beginning of Saudi Arabia's rich history, with Diriyah serving as the capital of this nascent state.
Saudi Founding Day is one of just three non-religious national holidays observed in the Kingdom, Founding Day is a national day off for both the public and private sectors.
