Saudi Ministry of Culture launches an app for Jeddah's Historic District

AlBalad is one of Jeddah's most historic and culturally rich destinations, yet in recent years it has also become the epicentre of progressive modernity and revolution.

The AlBalad district continues to undergo a series of improvements and regeneration, under the sponsorship of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and as part of the revitalisation project. Aiming to transform AlBalad into a vibrant urban hub, reflecting its historical essence while positioning it as an international cultural and tourist destination, this revitalisation project is well under way.

The historic district of Jeddah is most well recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and as an area that holds deep historical significance, AlBalad remains a symbol of Saudi Arabia’s architectural and cultural legacy to this day.

From the ultra indulgent boutique hotels built into the restored shells of the renowned corals houses, the music festivals that take over the winding streets and open plazas, the early morning race meets for roadrunners and the hub of happenings during the Red Sea Film Festival; AlBalad is not just another historic district, it is alive.

Interactive App for Visitors and Locals

The newly launched 'Historic Jeddah' app provides visitors with real-time access to historical content, route planning tools, and instant notifications about ongoing activities.

This digital integration allows users to explore Jeddah’s landmarks with enriched context, making their journey through the historic district more immersive and informative. By enabling interactive experiences, the app aligns with the Ministry of Culture’s broader mission to preserve Saudi Arabia’s urban heritage and elevate its presence on the global cultural stage.

Embracing Digital Transformation

The launch of this application reaffirms Saudi Arabia’s commitment to digital innovation and transformation, integrating modern technology with historical preservation.

By offering a real-time, interactive platform, the Ministry of Culture ensures that visitors not only see AlBalad’s architectural beauty but also understand its historical significance, contributing to a global appreciation of Saudi heritage.

Al Balad-Saudi Tourism Authority

This initiative signals Saudi Arabia’s dedication to blending tradition with technology, ensuring that historic districts remain relevant in a modernised world while continuing to captivate visitors. Sharing information on interactive and immersive cultural workshops, self-guided tours, souq opening times and exciting once-off events taking place in the historic district - the application will allow tourists, historians, and local residents alike to experience AlBalad in an entirely new way.

With the Jeddah Historic District app now available to download on both iOS and Android, the launch of this mobile application marks yet another step toward positioning Saudi Arabia as a leading destination for cultural tourism.
