Resort Review: Four Seasons Resort AMAALA at Triple Bay, Saudi Arabia

My visit to Four Seasons Resort AMAALA at Triple Bay has stood out as one of my defining stays of this year: a quiet, restorative pause where the resort revealed itself not through grand views, but through a deeply immersive, multi-sensory connection to place.

Sitting on the edges  along an untouched stretch of Saudi Arabia’s northwestern coastline, Four Seasons Resort AMAALA at Triple Bay arrives as a quiet, atmospheric anchor on the Red Sea. Framed by the aqua waters of the bay on one side and the jagged, terracotta-hued peaks of the Hijaz Mountains on the other, the sanctuary feels deliberately removed from the world — a place where raw desert topography meets modern, chic architectural design.

Stepping into the open-air lobby, the tone is set immediately. It is an arrival that demands you slow down, setting the stage for a stay defined by quiet restoration, intuitive service, and an unmistakable sense of place.

In Short:

One of the newest openings in Saudi Arabia, Four Seasons Resort AMAALA at Triple Bay invites guests to discover an immersive coastal escape. The sprawling, family-friendly resort embraces Najdi-inspired design that gently melts into the natural surroundings, whilst exploring a tailored approach to longevity wellness, and intuitive service. The resort's location along the Red Sea completes the framing of a serene, multi-sensory journey of personal renewal.

Set along the pristine shores of Triple Bay on Saudi Arabia’s northwestern coast, Four Seasons Resort and Residences AMAALA is dramatically framed by the calm, aqua blue waters of the Red Sea and the rugged peaks of the Hijaz Mountains.

Reaching this secluded coastal retreat is seamless: my flight from Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport directly to Al Wajh International Airport, was smooth and took just two hours. From there, we continued on our journey towards AMAALA with a 50-minute private transfer to the resort. Airport transfers can be arranged through the resort team, and for guests arriving in their own cars, valet parking is also available. Additionally, both larger car services or luxury chauffeur services and regional charter flights can be arranged directly through the resort's concierge team.

The Background

Announced in March 2024, Four Seasons Resort AMAALA at Triple Bay stands as the luxury hospitality brand’s fourth property in Saudi Arabia, following its established presence in Riyadh and signed developments in Diriyah and The Red Sea.

Designed by international architecture firm U+A, the resort’s architectural concept takes design cues from traditional Saudi coastal villages, blending stone structures with organic geometric forms that mimic the natural contours of the Red Sea coastline. The design theme centres on seamless indoor-outdoor living, prioritising natural shade, ambient airflow, and soft coastal textures to create an understated, wellness-focused retreat grounded in regional heritage.

The Guests & Ambiance

The first thing that caught my eye in the lobby was the sadu weaving suspended from the ceiling. The roof was fully open to the sky, in a design inspired by the central courtyards of traditional Najdi homes. Embracing a similar, familiar feel, the atmosphere at Four Seasons Resort AMAALA at Triple Bay moves with a quiet, unhurried rhythm centred around restorative luxury.

Rather than leaning into high-energy glamour, the experience relies on organic tranquility and embracing the natural surroundings, through open-air stone pavilions, the ambient sound of water from surrounding lagoons, and low-lit, winding pathways come evening. The destination draws high-net-worth wellness travellers and discerning global vacationers who prioritise privacy, space, and personal renewal over a public scene. Mindful luxury travellers gather here for tailored spa and longevity programs that balance health with genuine indulgence, while active marine and sports enthusiasts are drawn by the oceanfront golf course, private tennis courts, and pristine diving reefs. High-net-worth families from across the GCC, in addition to a variety of international guests to complete the mix, seeking multi-generational breaks in private pool villas supported by intuitive, discreet service.

The Rooms & Suites

Across its 202 rooms, suites, and villas, the resort offers uninterrupted ocean views. My suite had a small private pool, but the subtle design details stood out most: organic greens brought the surrounding foliage indoors, while earthy browns mirrored the distant mountains across the water. The overall effect seamlessly connected the interior to the landscape.

The architectural narrative of the suites and villas at Four Seasons Resort AMAALA at Triple Bay hinges on what design firm U+A calls "palatial luxury touched by land" — a modern, organic interpretation of traditional Saudi coastal architecture. Instead of stark ultra-minimalism or ostentatious opulence, the residential spaces draw inspiration from the surrounding terrain, pairing clean contemporary lines with soft desert tones, tactile local stone, woven natural fibres, and warm wood accents. Light plays a key role, with expansive floor-to-ceiling glass and private outdoor living spaces designed to frame uninterrupted views of the Red Sea or pristine coastal lagoons while maximising natural shade and airflow.

The layout of the accommodations prioritises expansive spatial freedom and fluid indoor-outdoor living. Every key — from the entry-level terrace rooms spanning 60 square meters to the multi-bedroom suites and freestanding pool villas — opens directly onto private furnished terraces, shaded daybed nooks, or private plunge pools. Inside, the layout leans heavily into high-end residential comfort. Deeply cushioned low-slung seating, bespoke timber joinery, and spa-inspired limestone bathrooms featuring freestanding soaking tubs and open walk-in rain showers create a calm, tactile environment where wellness-focused living feels built into the very architecture.

For guests seeking elevated privacy, the resort's standalone villas and multi-bedroom suites push the concept further into private residential sanctuaries. Set directly along the beach or nestled beside lagoon waters, these residences integrate private infinity pools, outdoor dining salas, and secluded outdoor showers. The interior design balances grand proportions with subtle Arabian heritage, incorporating contemporary geometric screen details and hand-crafted regional craft elements that filter sunlight and maintain intuitive privacy without compromising the connection to the sea.

The Dining

Dining across the resort’s six restaurants and lounges pivots on balancing epicurean depth and clean, health-focused eating. The menus draw heavily from local seafood, organic produce, and hyper-seasonal ingredients, leaning into light, nutrient-rich dishes that sit naturally alongside a wellness lifestyle.

Guests can choose between MAA Social for coastal Middle Eastern plates, ALMAA for Mediterranean grilling focused on digestive health, and ZAATAR, an elevated space exploring Levantine, Persian, and Arabian flavour profiles. At the cliffside Rock Baar, light tapas and botanical drinks are served over dramatic coastal views, while a resident nutritionist is on hand to help tailor menus across the resort to individual dietary goals.

For me, dinner at ALMAA proved to be a real highlight. The outdoor tables hit the right notes in the cool evening, the dining area was low-lit, and looked out over the pool, completed with the gentle rhythm of the Red Sea rolling in just beyond the deck. The kitchen bridges Mediterranean classics with hyper-local Saudi produce and sea-sourced ingredients. I opted for the peri-peri chicken, which delivered a quiet, warming kick of spice that lingered without ever overwhelming the dish.

Wellness & Spa

Wellness is woven naturally into the resort’s daily rhythm, offering a flexible schedule of movement, meditation, and sensory work from morning through evening. As my therapist noted, this philosophy extends directly to the kitchen, where menus are tailored to nourish digestion and strengthen immunity.

I started one morning on the outdoor deck for a sunrise yoga class, facing out toward the open sea with the mountains framed behind us, a setting that anchored the practice completely in AMAALA's raw landscape.

Later at the spa, my treatment featured bespoke techniques alongside Wildsmith products. Originating from the Heckfield Estate in Hampshire, the British botanical brand aligns its formulations with the natural rhythms of the day. Treatments adapt to your circadian clock using specific oil blends: invigorating Vitality in the morning with notes of ginger and cedarwood, balancing Purity in the afternoon with grapefruit and juniper, and calming Stillness come evening, rich in chamomile and lavender.

I also spent time in the halo-therapy room at HYLIAA Wellbeing, designed to clear the airways and support respiratory health. Between sessions, my therapist walked me through a simple, grounding breathwork exercise — a slow, intentional technique I’ve kept using long after leaving the treatment room.

The Staff and Service

The service strikes that intuitive Four Seasons balance between polished hospitality and genuine warmth, managing to feel attentive without ever turning intrusive. From arrival, interactions are defined by a quiet efficiency, staff anticipate small preferences, seamlessly coordinate daily schedules, and offer thoughtful recommendations tailored to how you like to spend your time.

Even their wardrobe adds to the aesthetic, with contemporary cuts, subtle Arab-inspired details, and colours drawn from nature lending the team a distinctive elegance. There is an easy, unscripted friendliness to the staff that makes navigating the resort feel effortless, anchored by the kind of observant, personal care that transforms a stay into a truly restorative retreat.

Something Standout: The Marine Discovery Centre

The Marine Discovery Centre 2

The Marine Discovery Centre at Four Seasons Resort AMAALA is the resort’s hub for ocean stewardship, hands-on conservation, and underwater exploration. As the resort is perched close to Triple Bay’s pristine coral reefs, the centre offers guests the opportunity to directly engage with the marine ecosystems of the Red Sea.

And, during my stay, we visited the Marina Discovery Center for a guided tour. Here, Zahra and her colleague James led us on a tour connecting the region's natural surroundings with its culture. We began with the desert, its valleys and sands, moved on to sadu weaving, textiles and local stories, and ended with the Red Sea and its varied marine life. Plants, poetry and observing through the senses were also part of the tour, with a focus on how people relate to their surroundings. The centre uses interactive experiences to introduce visitors to the sea, land and sky, as well as local culture and heritage.
